Show numbered instructions with the HowTo steps block
Articles with HowTo structured data get a visible block too: numbered steps with images, tools, supplies, and total time — authored once, rendered twice.
When you set an article's type to HowTo and fill in its steps in Settings → Content & FAQs, two things publish from the same data: HowTo structured data for search engines and AI agents, and a payload the HowTo steps app block renders visibly on the article — numbered steps with optional images, your tools and supplies lists, and the total time.
Because the block and the structured data read the same authored fields, what shoppers see and what agents read can never disagree.
Add the block
- In Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes and click Customize.
- Use the template picker to open your blog post (article) template.
- Click Add block, and choose HowTo steps under Apps.
- Set the heading if you want one, and Save.
- The block renders only on articles whose type is HowTo with at least one filled-in step — everywhere else it stays silent.
- Edits in the article editor reach the storefront on the article's next sync, which saving triggers.
Tip · The HowTo steps block is part of paid plans. On the free plan the block stays silent — it never shows an upgrade message to your shoppers.
