Shopify made /agents.md the canonical file AI agents read, and every store gets one automatically. The catch: the default is generic. It reads near-identically to every other store and points agents at Shopify's own rails rather than telling them what's distinctive about you. Most stores are sitting on the default and don't know it, because a checker that only asks 'does it exist?' shows green.

Is this free?

Why do I paste it instead of clicking install?
Shopify only lets the theme own /agents.md, and writing to a merchant's theme requires a special access grant the platform gates carefully. Generating the file and letting you paste it keeps AgentReady out of your theme entirely, so the result is plain Markdown you own and can revert by deleting one file.
How is this different from llms.txt?
On Shopify they're the same content at different URLs: /llms.txt and /llms-full.txt mirror /agents.md, so customizing agents.md updates all three. agents.md is the canonical one and carries the transaction handshake (UCP/MCP), not just an index of links.
Will it go stale?
